Reducing Waste in a cutting plan

Engaging with our CLT supplier early in the design development process, we were able to identify unusually high wastage in our preliminary design.

Typically, we would expect about 10% waste in a CLT cutting plan accounting for openings and off-cuts from the stardard size mother panels. In this particular design, we found that we were over 15%.

In order to drive improve economy, we have introduced stand alone headers. These will reduce wastage by utilizing off-cuts instead of cutting door openings out of larger panels. Naturally, there will be additional handling and assembly, but in this case we think it is the right move.
